Date set for street food market opening

A street food market forced to move for a regeneration scheme will open in a new city centre location at the end of July, organisers have said.

Bustler Market in Derby operated from The Chocolate Factory site in John Street from 2020, but closed in December to make way for the Castleward regeneration scheme.

The market's new "hub of independent street food, micro-restaurants, lifestyle and retail units" in a two-storey development - made out of more than 20 repurposed shipping containers - is under construction in St James' Yard between Derby's Sadler Gate and St James's Street.

Posting to social media, Bustler said it "cannot wait" to open up at the Cathedral Quarter site on 31 July.

A statement said: "Everyone behind the scenes is working incredibly hard to get us open and make Bustler Derby the place to be.

"We will see you in the flesh very soon."

Bustler Market began at Derby Bus Station in 2017 and moved to The Chocolate Factory three years later.

But last year, Derby City Council planners said they were working on planning for the fifth phase of the £100m Castleward residential redevelopment scheme, including the Bustler Market site.

Castleward is an "urban village" redevelopment of largely industrial land between Derby Midland Railway Station and the city centre, which has been ongoing in phases since it was approved in 2012.
