Four jailed for 'violent and frightening' kidnap

Four men have been jailed for their part in what a judge described as the "violent and frightening" abduction and "torture" of a man in Telford.

Shayyan Hussain, 24, Faheem Chohan, 23, and Ehteshan Hussain, 22, were each jailed for seven and a half years, while Jawad Hussain, 21, was jailed for seven years.

All four men pleaded guilty to kidnap in January.

A crown court sentencing in Telford on Wednesday heard that the four men each played a role in the kidnap of a 21 year-old man, who was dragged from his house and forced into the boot of an Audi on 29 December 2025.

Judge Trevor Meegan said the kidnap came after a dispute between the victim and members of the Hussain family.

"That dispute centred around the victim's contact with a young 17-year-old woman, and it was driven by issues of perceived family honour."

The woman, Meegan said, was the sister of Shayyan Hussain, towards whom he felt a "misguided sense of familial responsibility".

In the period leading up to the kidnap, Meegan said there had been a sustained course of threats and intimidation directed at the victim, where he was told to leave the Wellington area "or he would be killed".

The court heard that the Audi was obtained by Ehteshan Hussain for the purpose of the abduction.

The remote storage container had been identified in advance by Haider Ali, 22, who was found guilty of kidnap after a trial in June, and will be sentenced for his part on Thursday.

The site was chosen because it was "isolated, secure, out of public view and capable of being controlled".

On the afternoon of 29 December, the men, with Jawad Hussain driving, attended the victim's home in Arleston with their faces covered.

He was dragged from his house against his will, and his mother attempted to intervene, before being "roughly pushed aside".

Her arm was run over by the car as it drove off.

Meegan told the court that the victim was driven to the storage container and was stripped, bound and tied to a chair by Shayyan Hussain, Faheem Chohan and Ehteshan Hussain, "rendering him completely helpless".

"He was subject to repeated acts of violence in a prolonged episode, torture," he said.

"He was degraded and filmed, threatened with death and made to believe he would not leave alive."

Shayyan Hussain made demands to the victim's family for £20,000 in ransom money, the court heard, and they were told if it was not produced, he would be killed.

The victim was put on the phone to his family, and begged that the money be paid.

Meegan said the "degrading treatment and torture" lasted for several hours, leaving him with several facial fractures, a torn retina and severe bruising.

Jawad Hussain helped to conceal and abandon the Audi used for the kidnapping.

Later that evening, the court heard, the victim was moved out of the storage container to another vehicle.

"The victim was left and seized the opportunity," Meegan said.

"He moved to driver's seat, drove away, and sought help."

The judge said the victim had suffered "profound and enduring consequences," experiencing symptoms of PTSD, anxiety and depression, as well as social withdrawal, disturbed sleep and flashbacks.

"You, Jawad, and Faheem, were good friends of his, and would eat together. You had even been on holiday together," Meegan said, addressing the defendants.

Passing the sentences, the judge said that Shayyan and Ehteshan Hussain occupied "leading operational roles" in the planning and execution of the kidnap.

He said while Faheem Chohan did not participate at a later stage, his role was central, and he was a full participant in the planning and execution.

Jawad Hussain had a "significant role", and although he was not involved in later events, he "participated in the outset and enabled the offence to occur".

Concluding, Meegan described it as a "grave and deeply troubling offence", where circumstances were "calculated to terrify and degrade" the victim and extort his family.

He commended West Mercia Police for their "thoughtfulness and thousands of man hours" dedicated to the case.
