A man has been arrested after a section of the M5 was closed for more than four hours.

The motorway was shut near Bristol between junction 18 (Avonmouth) and 19 (Portishead) southbound and junction 21 (Weston-super-Mare) to 18 northbound due to a police incident.

Avon and Somerset Police closed the route at about 20:00 BST on Sunday. This section of road reopened just after midnight, according to National Highways.

"A man in his thirties was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance," police said.
