A man has been arrested after a teenager died in a hit-and-run crash in Surrey, police have said.

The crash happened on the A3 southbound in Guildford at about 23:15 BST on Friday, near the junction with Wilderness Road.

A 19-year-old man died at the scene, and his next-of-kin have been informed.

A 31-year-old man from Aylesbury has now been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He is currently in police custody.

A white DAF tanker lorry has also been located and seized by police.

Officers say they are still looking to trace a large white van which they believe could have been a witness vehicle to the collision.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage is asked to contact Surrey Police.
