Funding secured for supported living project

A housing project for older people and working-age adults who need support to live independently has secured funding, a council said.

The Hoplands in Sleaford, a £16.6m development, will have 52 specialist homes according to Lincolnshire County Council. It will be funded by Homes England, North Kesteven District Council and the county council.

The authority said it expected construction to start in spring 2027 and the homes would be ready for people to live in by autumn 2028.

Steve Clegg, executive member for adult care and health, said: "With an ever-growing number of older people in the county, projects like this are vital."

Homes England has approved £7.268m through its Social and Affordable Homes Programme, while the project will receive £6.42m from North Kesteven District Council and £2.92m from Lincolnshire County Council.

The development off Boston Road will be made up of 40 extra care apartments for older people and 12 supported living apartments for adults who need support to live independently.

The council said there were plans to extend the site further to include 20 new houses.

Clegg said: "This new accommodation would offer working-age adults with disabilities an independent life, like others their age, with all the care and support they need."

Richard Wright, North Kesteven District Council's leader, said The Hoplands was well designed and had sustainability and local need at its core.

"Securing this level of Homes England funding is a significant step towards delivering much-needed affordable specialist housing locally," he said.
