'I want my Bayeux Tapestry next to the original'

An embroiderer who has spent more than a decade recreating the Bayeux Tapestry said she hoped to see her work displayed alongside the original one day.

Mia Hansson, from Wisbech in Cambridgeshire, said she had already embroidered 59m (193ft) of her recreation of the 70m-long (229ft) artwork and hoped it would be finished in 2027.

The 52-year-old said she was sticking closely to the 11th Century masterpiece, which is being displayed to the public at the British Museum in September.

But her work has left her with a question around representation of gender: Just how many "bananas and plums" are stitched into the piece?
