Major route reopens after 'serious' gas leak
GoogleA major route has reopened after a serious gas leak was discovered under a road, council leaders have said.
Somerset Council said the A39 Bath Road in Bridgwater was closed on Thursday, between the intersection with Bailey Street and the McMillan Theatre.
Wales and West Utilities' workers carried out a full repair and the road reopened under two-way traffic lights overnight into Friday, the council said.
Steve Bakes, Wales & West Utilities operations manager for Bridgwater, previously said there had been "no impact on local gas supplies".
He added temporary two-way traffic lights were in place to give a new road surface time to set.
"Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we expect to fully reopen the road early next week," he said.
"We appreciate the patience and understanding of local people and road users while we carried out this essential repair," he said.
