Isle of Man's tourism industry hits £433m record

The Isle of Man's tourism industry has reached a record value of £433.4 million, an increase of £256 million since 2016.

The latest figures from the annual Visitor Economy Report show 352,301 people visited the Island in 2025, up 6.9% on the previous year.

Tourism's contribution to the economy has increased by 138% over the past decade, with visitors spending an average of £789 each.

John Keggin, Commercial Director at Island Escapes, said the business had seen visitor numbers grow consistently since the pandemic.

"Once you get the visitor hooked on coming to the Island, they stay very loyal and tend to return year on year," said Keggin.

The report also highlighted that visitor satisfaction has reached its highest recorded level, with 99.2% of people describing themselves as satisfied or very satisfied with their visit, up from 98.7% in 2024.

Mr Keggin said the figures reflected the experience many visitors had once they arrived on the Island.

"I think people are always a bit surprised when they get here; it's a very special place."

Mr Keggin said the Island's appeal was built around its natural environment, heritage and sense of escape.

"People are often here for the outdoors, for nature and the beauty of the Island. Nowhere is too far away, so you can enjoy a holiday without spending loads of time driving around."

He highlighted the Island's heritage railways, walking routes, boat trips, food and drink scene, and changing seasons as key attractions for visitors.

However, he warned that challenges remained, particularly around the cost of travel.

"Although this report is really positive, we can't forget that some of the biggest challenges are still getting people to the Island and the huge cost of travel to get here," he said.

Chief Executive Deborah Heather described welcoming more than 352,000 visitors as a "significant achievement", but said the growth in visitor spending and high satisfaction levels were particularly encouraging.

She said average visitor spend had already exceeded the target originally set for 2032, with the figures showing the long-term strategy was delivering benefits for residents, businesses and visitors.

Sarah Maltby MHK said the sector had an important role in supporting economic growth, with the increase in visitor spending and wider economic contribution demonstrating the "tangible value" tourism brings to the Island.

Mr Keggin said attracting new visitors remained one of the sector's biggest challenges, particularly given the cost of travelling to the Island.

"Some of the biggest challenges are still on getting people to the island and the huge cost of travel to get here."
