Police have appealed for information after two men tried to break into a family home with hammers while dressed as Deliveroo drivers.

The pair rung the bell at the home in Benfleet, Essex, and said they had a delivery, before trying to force their way in at about 20:30 BST on 5 July.

The homeowners - who managed to hold the door against them forcing the suspects to flee - have shared an image from their Ring doorbell footage to help prevent further incidents.

"We do not know the individuals responsible, why our home was targeted or what their motive was," they said.

Detectives described the suspects as black and with Essex accents.

In a statement given to the BBC, the homeowners revealed a video clip from their Ring doorbell footage was uploaded and shared on social media "without our knowledge or consent".

Initially, they had only shared it with a select number of people.

"This has caused significant distress to our family at a time when we had only just started our recovery from the incident," they continued.

They thanked local people for their support and "kindness".

There is no suggestion the suspects worked for Deliveroo, but the company has been asked for comment.
