Ninth man charged in historical child sex gang investigation
Getty ImagesA ninth man has been charged as part of a child sexual exploitation investigation.
Gwent Police opened Operation Oak after women reported abuse committed against them as children between 1985 and 1996.
On Friday, detectives arrested Mohammed Ramzan, from Newport, and have since charged the 76-year-old with seven offences.
Eight other men were previously charged with a range of offences related to "group-based child sexual exploitation in south Wales".
Ramzan has been charged with:
- Two counts of rape of a female under 16
- Three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 16
- Causing the prostitution of a girl under 16
- Conspiring to rape a girl under 16
Police said Ramzan was a British citizen and defined himself as Asian Pakistani.
The nine men face 41 charges between them relating to eight victims who were children at the time of the alleged offences.
The men, aged between 54 and 76, are due to appear at Newport Magistrates' Court on Friday.
Det Ch Supt Andrew Tuck said: "It is vital for the victims in this case, and for the integrity of the investigation, that nothing is posted on social media that could affect the court proceedings."
The other defendants are:

- Kevin Lawrence, 54, of Dunoon
- Sheikh Mohammed Tahir Ullah, 73, of Newport
- Aminur Rahman Chowdhury, 58, of Tottenham
- Shakeel Babur, 58, of Lancashire
- Murad Ali, 57, of Swansea
