Glasgow Central low-level services slowly resuming after signal fault

Trains that run through the low level platforms at Glasgow Central have been heavily disrupted due to a signalling fault.

Services that connect Dunbartonshire to Lanarkshire via Glasgow - running from Dalmuir through to Whifflet or Motherwell and from Milngavie or Dalmuir to Motherwell or Cumbernauld - are affected.

The signalling fault problem has occurred between Rutherglen and Anderston on the line.

Trains that uses the high-level platforms at Glasgow Central have not been affected by the disruption.

Scotrail was initially forced to suspend all services that run through Central, but has since been able to resume a limited service.

Half hourly trains will run from Hyndland to Larkhall, with hourly services going from Rutherglen to Motherwell - one route via Baillieston and the other via Hamilton.

Services to and from Helensburgh will call additionally at Jordanhill, Scotstounhill, Garscadden, Yoker and Clydebank in both directions.

Among the stations affected is Exhibition Centre, which will be one of the main stations in use for the Commonwealth Games, as it serves the OVO Hydro and SEC Campus that will host a number of sports.

Although the games have not yet begun, athletes and team members from several competing nations can already be seen wandering about the area.

Network Rail said it was continuing to work to identify the cause of the fault with its signalling and power distribution teams.
