JCB driven into takeaway after being stolen from farm

A stolen JCB was driven into a takeaway in Cardiff after being taken from a nearby farm.

South Wales Police said officers were called to Countisbury Avenue in Llanrumney at about 01:45 BST on Monday.

The machine is believed to have been stolen from a farm in St Mellons.

An investigation is under way to establish the motive.

Square Pizza Co Chicken Shack Gelato Corner released a statement on Facebook, and thanked customers for their support.

"We also recognise there has been significant public reaction to this situation. However, we ask people not to speculate further or direct anger towards our wider team, who had no involvement in these events."

It added: "We are aware of the damage caused to our store overnight. Our focus now is supporting our staff, cooperating with any relevant authorities where required, and moving forward as a business."

Insp Meg Butler said: "Understandably there is a lot of speculation within the community about this incident.

"We would ask anyone with information, no matter how small it might seem, to please contact us directly or Crimestoppers anonymously."
