Boy, 13, dies and woman in hospital after M4 crash

A 13-year-old boy has died after a two-vehicle crash on a motorway on Saturday.

Wiltshire Police said the crash happened at about 20:00 BST on Saturday between junctions 16 (Swindon) and 17 (Chippenham) of the M4 westbound.

The teenager was a passenger in a Toyota RAV-4 which was in a collision with a Renault van.

A woman who was also a passenger in the Toyota is being treated in hospital for serious injuries.

The driver of the van and car were not seriously injured, police said.

The force wants any witnesses or people with dashcam footage to contact officers.

Emergency services closed the westbound carriageway after the incident, and the traffic on the eastbound carriageway was later held for two hours to allow air ambulances to attend the scene.

National Highways said all lanes reopened on the M4 in both directions between the two junctions earlier.
