Work to clear trailers filled with waste under way

Work is under way to remove two large articulated trailers filled with waste after they were abandoned on a road in Scunthorpe.

The trailers were left on Ramsden Road, near Flixborough Industrial Estate, between 27 and 29 June, according to North Lincolnshire Council.

Andy Fidell, head of operations at the authority, said the waste was being assessed for hazardous materials before being removed by specialist contractors.

The road is expected to be closed until Wednesday to allow for the work to be carried out.

The council previously said the waste appeared to include insulation boards and tyres.

Fidell said there was also the potential for asbestos, or other hazardous materials, which, if found, could lead to delays in the clean-up operation.

"Clearly, it's inconvenient - just to leave it on the highway is not acceptable," he added.

The council has appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage of the trailers being towed or dumped to report it through its fly-tipping reporting portal.
