Teen likely drowned in lake, inquest hears
Lincolnshire PoliceA 16-year-old boy likely died from drowning after getting into difficulty in a lake at a nature reserve in Lincoln, an inquest opening has heard.
Iretomiwa Abiodun Micheal, also known as Tomiwa, was rescued from Swanholme Lakes on 9 July and died later in hospital.
Speaking at the opening of the inquest at Myle Cross Centre in Lincoln, senior coroner Paul Smith said while an exact medical cause of death was yet to be confirmed, preliminary findings indicated drowning.
The coroner adjourned the case until 8 January 2027 to allow for further investigations to take place.
Tomiwa's parents, Abiodun and Tope Micheal, previously described him as a "vibrant, energetic and unforgettable young man whose presence illuminated every space he entered".
He is the second teenager to die at the lake in recent months.
On 24 May, 15-year-old Declan Sawyer died after also getting into difficulty.
An inquest into his death found he died from drowning.
Following the deaths, City of Lincoln Council said it would introduce patrols at Swanholme Lakes, which is part of Hartsholme Park.
The patrols will run until the end of October.
