Cambridge railway wire damage causes train delays
Brian Farmer/BBCRail passengers have faced major disruption in and out of Cambridge after damaged overhead wires led to lines being blocked.
Initially, no trains were running between Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire, and Cambridge, or to King's Lynn, but lines have now reopened, said Network Rail.
"We're working with our train operator partners to restore services as quickly as we can," the spokesperson added.
But the service disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day. Passengers have been reminded to contact their train operator for delay repay refunds.
Network Rail said Greater Anglia, Great Northern and Thameslink services were affected by the damage to the overhead power lines.
Passengers travelling on CrossCountry services from Peterborough through Cambridge had also been warned to expect delays.
"Our systems reported damage to the overhead power lines in the Cambridge area at around 07:30 this morning, which unfortunately has caused severe disruption to passengers travelling between Cambridge and Cambridge North, as well as affecting train services between Cambridge and London," said the spokesperson.
"Our engineers were on site as quickly as possible and carried out repairs.
"We are sorry for the disruption this has caused to passengers and encourage anyone travelling to check National Rail Enquiries for the latest journey information."
