    Target 234

Joe Root knocks Jasprit Bumrah to long leg for two, then takes a single square to retain the strike.

No, wait, it's another over-step from Bumrah so the last delivery will be bowled again - Jos Buttler puts it into the covers to hand the strike back to Root.

Here's Elizabeth Botcherby to take you through the rest of the match.

Maybe another over of Bumrah, but what is Shubman Gill thinking? He doesn't have many options right now.

Another superb knock from Joe Root on a surface that isn't the best to bat on. Just look at his shot selection on this surface, he's been very careful.

Joe Root tucks Prasidh Krishna's last ball through square for a single, bringing up his half-century from 76 balls.

It’s fantastic to see wicketkeepers standing up to the pace men. It has become something of a lost art. Recently, keepers have often been just good fielders who have gloves on, without the class required for the nuance. Great to see the change.

    Andy, Liverpool

  7. Eng 117-4published at 23 overs

Jasprit Bumrah comes back and India make changes at both ends.

Ishan Kishan appeals after collecting a delivery to Joe Root, but nothing from the umpire and ultimately no review from India.

No fifth catch for you just yet, Ishan.

  8. Eng 114-4published at 22 overs

Prasidh Krishna returns to replace Shivam Dube and his second ball beats the bat of Jos Buttler as the England batter tries to hit across the line.

Joe Root then pulls out of a delivery and has a bit of a moan when it initially seems like it'll be recorded as a dot.

Eventually it is re-bowled and Root takes a single square.

With a modest total to chase, England’s top order proving they’re not up to the task. As for the captain’s dismissal? Well, I’m not sure I have a descriptive enough vocabulary!

Joe Root has got this innings together.

Not quite in the river, Dan - a steward emerges from one of the gangways and throws the ball back.

A couple more singles off the rest of the over - 11 runs off it, the required run-rate is down to 4.24.

  14. Eng 109-4published at 20.4 overs

    Bang!

Jos Buttler hits Axar Patel down the ground for six, with the ball disappearing behind the stand.

The boundary at the River Taff end is notably shorter than the one at the Cathedral Road end - lots of six potential.

  15. Eng 100-4published at 20 overs

Jos Buttler comes in at six for England - he's been demoted behind Sam Curran in this match, having batted at number five at Edgbaston.

He gets two through square then sends Shivam Dube to the mid-wicket boundary for four, bringing up England's century.

This game is still very much alive. A little nibble trying to run it off third man. Any catch standing up is a good 'un, there was no doubt about it.

Sam Curran promised quite a lot in that innings but 26 is not quite enough.

Good catch standing up to the stump from Ishan Kishan. A much needed wicket for India, they've got the breakthrough.

It's a tactic that works, Kieran!

Ishan Kishan comes to the stumps to medium-pacer Shivam Dube and is immediately rewarded with his fourth catch of the day.

It's Sam Curran who offers a faint edge behind - India break a partnership of 41.

Here's a spinner, Vic - Axar Patel is replacing Gurnoor Bar.

Axar concedes just one single from his first over, with Sam Curran taking a run out to backward square.
