Michael van Gerwen has been in the top four for 10 weeks but quarter-final exits in the past three weeks have been damaging. It will feel like one that has got away.

On his win in the Players Championship on Monday: "It was probably the best I've ever played in the Players Championship since i've been there. I just want to keep pushing and I know I can get to higher levels. I know with my doubles going in better I can get to a higher level."

On if anything has changed recently: "My momentum has changed - I've been going really well. It's been on my side recently. You've seen how deadly I've been recently with my scoring and doubling so if I can keep that up I know I can be a force to be reckoned with."

As for Michael van Gerwen, it all started so promisingly with victory on night one in Newcastle, but the Dutchman has been too inconsistent since then.

Nevertheless, this could still be a tasty match-up.

They have faced each other four times in this year's Premier League, and there's nothing to separate them, with both winning two matches apiece.
