Can these animals predict who will win the World Cup?

You've probably discussed it with your mates, football experts have been coming up with their own, but it's the animals which have been grabbing headlines with their World Cup 2026 predictions.

In a tradition which goes back years, (your parents might remember Paul the Octopus) where there is a football tournament it seems there's an animal making a prediction - or sometimes a whole zoo.

From Winston the whippet to Swimbappé the goldfish, here are our favourite non-humans making World Cup predictions.

Winston the whippet

Sadly for England, Winston was right about their defeat to Argentina

Winston the whippet, whose antics have been documented by a communications company Fortitude, has so far had an 100% success rate after siding with England against Croatia, Panama, DR Congo and Mexico.

Winston also chose Ghana for the Group stage game which resulted in a goalless draw.

The one year-old, who chooses a bowl of treats for his predictions has even done performed them live on BBC Radio Oxford.

Winston chose Argentina to win in the semi-finals, so can he guess whether it'll be Spain or France who lift the World Cup?

Jane the chimpanzee has got six of England's World Cup games right.

The baby chimp who lives at Wingham Wildlife Park in Kent has only got one prediction wrong when England drew with Ghana, but how can we blame her.

Her latest guess for the England Vs Argentina game was a win for the Three Lions.

Jane was right - sadly it was not to be!

Named after France captain Kylian Mbappé, Swimbappé has been making a splash from his tank at an office in Toronto, Canada.

Available to view in the ground floor window, Swimbappé has been drawing a crowd with his predictions.

He doesn't quite have 100% success rate, closer to 60% and he did predict France to win against Spain, but then so did a lot of pundits!

Moo Deng the pygmy hippo

Moo Deng, the pygmy hippo who became a big hit two years ago when a clip of her went viral, has been making her own predictions at Thailand's Khao Kheow Open Zoo.

The latest event staged at the zoo before Spain vs France saw the hippo choosing watermelon halves marked with the four finalists flags.

Moo Deng chose France over Spain, who are through the final.

And while she chose England, Her mother chose Argentina. Ouch!

The zoo says the predictions are just for entertainment and not to be taken too seriously!
