England win World Cup bronze after ten-goal thriller against France

It was celebrations for England's Three Lions after they won the Bronze medal match at the World Cup.

The team came third after beating France 6-4 in an epic thriller.

A World Cup 'bronze final' is usually a game no players want to take part in, but Saturday night's match between England and France turned out to be a corker.

There was a hat-trick for Bukayo Saka and Kylian Mbappé put himself top of the list to be the competition's top goalscorer.

The Three Lions picked themselves up from the disappointment of losing in the semi-final against Argentina earlier in the week, to score four goals in the first half.

Captain for the day Declan Rice opened the scoring from long-range and then set up Ezri Konsa for the second.

Bukayo Saka then scored two more goals before the break, taking it to 4-0.

France manager Didier Deschamps, who was in charge for the final time, made some major changes at half-time and it paid off.

Kylian Mbappé scored twice, making him the World Cup's all-time leading scorer with 22 goals in total - one ahead of Argentina's Lionel Messi.

A third France goal from Bradley Barcola made it 4-3 to England, meaning the pressure was back on to produce something special.

Step up Saka, who scored a penalty and nabbed himself a coveted World Cup hat-trick.

He is now only one of four England players to have achieved that feat.

After another scare in the form of a 96-minute goal from France's Ousmane Dembélé, Jude Bellingham finished the goal-fest with a brilliant solo effort.

After the game, Declan Rice told reporters that this team is the "best England group for a very long time".

He added: "I think we can be proud as a group - we are just gutted we lost in that semi-final.

"We're tired of saying we're proud of coming in semi-finals and quarter-finals - we want to win with England ultimately.

"But to come third in this tournament is a real achievement."
