Phil Parkinson fully expects Wrexham to bolster their squad in the transfer window despite yet making a signing this summer.

The Red Dragons underwent a major squad overhaul last summer on the back securing a third successive promotion to reach the Championship.

While wholesale changes to the team are not required at present, Parkinson still hopes to improve certain areas of his squad.

"We feel we've got areas in the squad where we're light in terms of taking on the challenge of the Championship, which is a relentless league," said the Wrexham manager.

"There's areas which we feel we need to improve.

"We've identified those since the start of summer and we're working towards that."

Wrexham will be vying to push for a play-off spot in the second tier next term, having missed out on a top-six place on the final day of the 2025-26 regular season.

Their cause will be aided by the expansion of the play-offs, with sides ending in seventh and eighth both earning a spot beyond the regular season next term.

Preparations for the new season were given encouragement by beating Manchester United in a pre-season game in Helsinki on Saturday, with Sam Smith scoring the game's only goal.

While there is plenty of anticipation ahead of Wrexham's second successive campaign in the Championship, Parkinson says his side can ill-afford to rush their transfer business.

"There's so much work that goes on, and sometimes it can be a lot of work and nothing comes of it," he added.

"It's about getting the right players. Sometimes you've got to be patient. Don't sign a player just to show everyone 'oh we've signed somebody'.

"It's got to be the right player, because we've got a good squad to start the season.

"If there's a player or one of the options we've got out there falls into place, then it'll enhance the group we've got."
