A long-awaited decision on the future shape of councils in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland has been confirmed by the government. Ministers have backed a plan, proposed by Labour mayor of Leicester Sir Peter Soulsby, to extend Leicester City Council's current border in all directions. This means the city will expand into areas currently served by the Reform-run Leicestershire County Council, as well as neighbouring district authorities.
