Many migrants come to Calcutta seeking wealth, but find themselves in a health lottery. The river Ganges spreads disease amongst the poor, as much as it sustains them. Tropical diseases are common killers. Why are so many dying, and how can the drug companies be persuaded to act for the poor on the plains of the Ganges?
