Vines in Shropshire

On Your Farm

Available for over a year

Zoe Evans says she caught the wine bug early. After starting her career working for a major wine retailer, and in vineyards around the world, she returned to the family's Shropshire farm. With her twin sister, Melissa, she planted 7,000 vines in 2020. Rowton Vineyard produced its first vintage in 2022 and is going from strength to strength, making distinctive fruit driven wines. As Zoe puts it, 'wine is a great way to express agriculture', and telling the story of the product from grape to glass is something both sisters love. The vineyard is at the heart of a working farm, each member of the family looks after their own strand of the business: Dad Keith has a herd of beef cattle, Mum Lorraine runs an accommodation business, brother Todd manages the arable crops and a broiler chicken unit. Sarah Swadling meets the family as the vines are basking in the sun, on a day of record breaking temperatures. Presented and Produced by Sarah Swadling.
