Give a Boy a Duck

A chance encounter with some abandoned ducks in a lakeside layby has helped a young Cumbrian farmer grow his confidence, his maths skills and a burgeoning egg business.
Eleven-year-old William Robinson’s family farm in the remote Martindale Valley near Ullswater. When they adopted 4 Muscovy ducks dumped by the side of the road, he took to them like, well…a duck to water. They now have more than 200 ducks, geese, bantams and quail and William and his younger brother Jack, along with their mum Laura, sell the eggs to local campsites, farm shops and at farmers markets.
The business started as a way to help William with his school work, dealing with cash from customers, but it’s also done wonders for his self-confidence and led to the boys and their mum meeting Hollywood Star Hugh Jackman who was looking for farming tips for his movie The Sheep Detectives.
