In the sharply divided society of Brazil, slam poetry gives an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to have a voice. Today we welcome three extraordinary poets who have all risen to the summit of the Brazilian scene: Valen, Mileny and Ryane Leão. Habitually performing their work in the rowdy environment of late night bars in the favelas, these poets bring their vibrant poems to Salford where they will perform in both English and a little Portuguese. They're joined today for performances by three UK poets who wowed audiences at the FLUP festival in Rio de Janeiro last year: Kadish Morris, Omari Swanston Jeffers and Jamila Pereira. This vibrant evening of 'music and poetry of the Black Atlantic' is MCed by renowned British poet Khadijah Ibrahiim.
