Darrell’s Letters – Week Ten

Hello there. I’m Darrell Rivers and I’ve just started attending Malory Towers. Will you be my pen pal? I’ll write to you each week and it would be lovely to have you write back.

I have to admit, that\u00A0was\u00A0a beautifull dress. I couldn\u2019t beleive it was for Pamela.\u00A0 I didn\u2019t want to beleive it.\u00A0Pamela told me to follow my dreams and I thought she wasn\u2019t following hers - teaching. I rang Gosworth College to book her a place on their Open Day \u2013 that was a mistake and I said sorry for it. I was interfering again and quite rightly Pamela told me I didn\u2019t know what was best for her. Being a debutante is what she wanted for her family and herself - she said that dreams\u00A0can\u00A0change and we can\u2019t all be pioneers. For me, I know that I want to break with tradition and become a doc\u00E5tor and that\u2019s my path, not everyone's. \u00A0We are going to stay freinds and write to each other and she even thinks I\u2019ll be head girl one day! Gwen showed her nicer side this week by giving up her tresured pearl to fix Pamela\u2019s dress\u2026maybe she\u2019s not so bad after all! Sally said Pamela might be a Gwen, not a Darrell. \u00A0I\u2019m not entirely sure what that means \u2013 are you a Gwen or a Darrell? And why?

My reply to your letters

Dear Freinds (msp), So it seems that being a \u2018Darrell\u2019 means being adventuorus (msp), enjoying sports, enjoying the company of family and friends and\u2026having a short temper. I suppose that is a nice description but I\u2019m still not sure what it means to be me. Many see yourselves as a mix of a Gwen and a Darrell \u2013 you like wearing beautiful dresses but also going on adventures. It\u2019s perhaps too difficult to think of yourself as one person or another \u2013 in fact, like Pamela, you could be neither a Gwen nor a Darrell but completely unique in your own way.
